What Is Chronic Pain?

Acute pain usually starts suddenly, is caused by something specific, and of short duration (< 6 months). It goes away when there is no longer an underlying cause for the pain. Chronic pain is pain that is ongoing and of longer duration (> 6 months). It can continue even after the injury or illness that caused it has healed or gone away. The pain management Phoenix area residents count on addresses both kinds of pain.

Chronic pain affects about 100 million Americans and is a common reason patients seek medical care. Pain can be a distraction, even disabling; either way it gets in the way of everyday life. The pain management Scottsdale trusts can help address the common issue.

The medical system has responded to this issue by implementing pain management services centered on opioid pharmacotherapy. However, for many chronic pain patients, the analgesic efficacy of long-term opioids is limited and chronic exposure to opioids can result in opioid misuse, addiction, and risk of overdose. As such, non-opioid treatment options are needed.

At T2 Health, we take a completely different approach to helping our patient suffering with pain. We believe an integrative approach is the most effective way of treating pain, acute or chronic.

Integrative – a healing-oriented approach that takes account of the whole person (mind, spirit, body), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic patient-doctor relationship and makes intelligent use of all appropriate diagnostics and therapies from both conventional medicine and natural/alternative medicine.

Chronic (& Acute Treatment Options)

At T2 Health, we want to help you find and correct the real underlying causes of your pain, not merely mask it. Therefore, we offer an extensive array of integrative treatment options, which are tailored and customized for your particular needs.

Our physician, Dr. Tracy Peruch is dual licensed, medical and chiropractic, and has combined both of his degrees to offer a wide range of knowledge and experience treating chronic pain and degenerative joint conditions.

EPAT - An FDA-approved method for treating acute and chronic pain. EPAT is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that uses pulsed acoustic energy waves to ito damaged tissue which stimulates the metabolism and blood circulation of the injured area allowing damaged tissue to regenerate and heal.

Regenerative Injection Therapy - The “alternative to joint surgery”, are a safe and effective spectrum of treatments (Prolotherapy, PRP) performed by Dr. Tracy Peruch for a wide-range of chronic pain and musculoskeletal injuries.

Steroids - Topical, oral and injections are used to reduce inflammation and pain. Please understand this is a treatment to help eliminate or reduce the pain while working on finding and treating the real underlying cause of your pain.

Trigger Point Injections (TPI's) - Trigger points are focal areas of muscle spasm, often located in the upper back and shoulder areas. They may irritate the nerves around them, and cause referred pain (pain that is felt in another part of the body). TPI’s are a procedure used to treat painful areas of muscle that contain trigger points. Typically, the injection contains an anesthetic and possibly a corticosteroid and/or other substances.

Pain Medications - Please understand that we only use pain medications on a case-by-case basis and as a last resort to address the ACUTE pain while working on finding and treating the real underlying cause of your pain. Pain medications will not be prescribed on your initial visit and are for only a very short duration. Patients requiring pain medications for an extended amount of time or chronically will be referred to a Pain Specialist for management of the pain medications.

Peptides - Peptide Therapy is the use of specific peptides for the treatment certain conditions. Peptides are amino-acids (building blocks of protein) linked together to form short chains. In our bodies, these peptides typically act as “signaling” molecules by binding to receptors on the cell surface. By attaching to the receptors, peptides will affect how the cell responds to certain stimuli. The peptide Bremelanotide PT 141 is now used to treat sexual dysfunction in men and women. Peptides require a prescription and are produced by compounding pharmacies.

Manipulations - Manipulation, or as often referred to “adjustment”, is the use of force in a precise direction to help normalize joint function. The “adjustment” is applied to a joint that is fixated, "locked up", or not moving properly and helps return the bones to a more normal position or motion.

Therapeutic Exercise - Therapeutic exercise refers to a wide range of physical activities that focuses on restoring and maintaining strength, endurance, flexibility, stability and balance. The goal of therapeutic exercises is to return an injured patient to a fully functioning, pain-free state.

Kinesio-Taping ("KT" Taping) - KT tape is an elastic tape designed to help relieve pain. When an area of the body is injured from impact or over-use, the injury causes inflammation resulting in swelling. This swelling may cause increased pressure on the muscle and other tissues which can cause significant discomfort and pain. KT taping helps in reducing the pressure to the tissues, which may reduce the discomfort or pain. Also, it can provide support to ligaments, tendons, and muscles.

Lifestyle Counseling - Many of our lifestyle choices can affect our perception of and ability to truly resolve and heal the real underlying cause of our pain. Healthy nutrition, physical active vs sedentary lifestyle, quality and restful sleep, effective management of our stress, and healthy and loving relationships.

Nutrient IV's & Injections - Nutrients delivered intravenously and intramuscularly that help support the treatment and healing of pain and other bodily functions for increasing overall health and well-being.

Professional-Grade Supplements - Natural substances, which may include vitamins, minerals, fish oils, botanical medicines, animal tissue (i.e. glandulars), and other therapeutic natural substances, which help support the treatment and healing of your pain and other bodily functions for increasing overall health and well-being.
