What Is Facial Rejuvenation?

Facial rejuvenation is a cosmetic treatment which aims to restore a youthful appearance to the human face. Facial rejuvenation can be achieved through either surgical or non-surgical options. However, today, patients have many different options when it comes to facial rejuvenation procedures and it can be very confusing and difficult for patients to know what type of treatment are best suited for them. Often many undergo cosmetic surgical procedures that are not optimal for them. At T2 Health, Dr. Tracy Peruch offers the latest in facial rejuvenation with a focus in minimally invasive techniques that yield the best natural aesthetic results.

Platelet - Rich Plasma (PRP)

The use of blood plasma and platelets to promote healing has been common in dentistry and orthopedics for many years. PRP is very high in platelets, growth factors and active proteins that stimulate the natural healing process. Platelets are a crucial component of wound healing and contain multiple growth factors that help accelerate the body’s own repair process. The use of PRP is rapidly becoming one of the most useful natural treatments for rejuvenating not only for the body, but the skin.

Platelet - Rich Plasma (PRP) Filler

Aging, sun damage, and genetics can lead to sagging, wrinkled skin. Cosmetic fillers are a safe and popular method to rejuvenate the face by plumping up the skin to restore volume and fullness to your face and lips, smoothing out moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, taking years off your appearance.

While there are several effective filler products (i.e. Juvederm®, Restylane®) available, PRP offers a truly natural alternative. What makes PRP fillers so special is that we restore the vitality of your skin with the power of your own blood. Some major benefits of using PRP as a cosmetic filler are:

  • Natural alternative for skin rejuvenation
  • Helps your skin heal and rejuvenate faster
  • No risk of an allergic reaction or skin sensitivity as we use your own blood
  • Longer lasting results

PRP Filler - What To Expect

To perform a PRP Filler treatment, we start with a simple blood draw. This blood will be centrifuged and then filtered through a special process, resulting in a solution of plasma with a high concentration of platelets (PRP). The PRP solution is then combined with a small amount of calcium chloride solution and within 10 minutes injected intradermally or subdermally into areas of the face using very small needles. Once injected, the combination of calcium chloride and body temperature will start the polymerization of the PRP solution, and a natural filler will be formed in the injected areas.

After the PRP Fill treatment, your face will usually look red and a bit swollen. Some areas, (i.e. thinner skin areas) may show tiny bruises. The redness disappears quickly, usually within an 1-2 hours. The tiny bruises can be covered using make-up. A normal routine can usually resume in 1-3 days.

Platelet - Rich Plasma (PRP) Facial

The PRP Facial treatment is a combination of microneedling and PRP. Combing these two procedures will activate the natural healing process and improve the rejuvenation effect. Some of the major benefits of using combing microneedling and PRP are:

  • Healthier looking skin – firmer, smoother, younger.
  • Improvement of fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, acne scars, sun damage, other skin imperfections
  • Fast recovery, usually within 24-48 hours
  • Long lasting results

With this procedure, PRP is used in combination with microneedling. Treatment starts with the application of an anesthetic cream to effectively “numb” the treatment area, which usually take about 20-25 minutes. Next, while for the anesthetic cream to take full effect, we perform a simple blood draw. This blood will be centrifuged and then filtered thru a special process, resulting in a solution of plasma with a high concentration of platelets (PRP).

Your body’s own PRP will be placed back into the skin by using the microneedling procedure. Microneedling uses a professional instrument designed with microneedles to penetrate the skin. The microneedling device creates micro-channels in the skin which providing a direct pathway to the deeper layers of skin for optimal wound healing. After microneedling, the PRP solution is topically applied to the skin and the micro-channels allow for optimal penetration and absorption of the PRP. This activates the creation of new collagen, elastin and the production of hyaluronic acid over the next 6-8 weeks, resulting in firmer, smoother, radiant skin.

After treatment, your face may look a little red (like sunburn) and swollen and feel sensitive. The “downtime” is about 2-4 days. Usually the first couple days it may look like you have a sunburn and your skin may feel tight, dry, swollen, or sensitive to the touch. Within the next couple days your skin should start to return to its normal tone and any swelling should subside, though there is still the possibility of some minor peeling or flaking.

Optimal results are usually obtained with 2-3 treatments every 4 weeks with maintenance treatments every 6-12 months.
